At Hop Brook Counseling Center we provide individualized treatment for individuals, couples and families.  We offer support in a variety of clinical areas, including anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, LGBTQ issues, perinatal mental health, behavior management, trauma, conduct disorders, and crisis intervention.

Kimberly O'Connor, Patient Navigator/Therapist

Kimberly O'Connor is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over ten years experience providing counseling and support in school, community and clinical settings throughout Connecticut. She has experience working with children, adolescents and adults, providing support for a variety of clinical needs including anxiety, depression, trauma, disruptive behaviors and parenting skills. 

 

Kimberly specializes in working with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression and anxiety as well as providing support to those struggling with infertility and pregnancy loss.  She uses her training in trauma focused therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) to inform her treatment, while tailoring therapy to each individual's unique needs. She is an experienced group facilitator and speaker, and has presented at several national conferences. 


Kimberly is passionate about helping individuals and families make positive changes to reach their personal and therapeutic goals.

Marissa is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience providing counseling in both school and clinical settings throughout the state. Marissa has experience working with children, parents, couples, adolescents and adults, providing therapy for a variety of clinical needs including parenting skills, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and disruptive behaviors. 

 

Marissa has specialized training in trauma focused treatment. She has also presented at two Connecticut Conferences.

Donna Costa is a Licensed Professional Counselor and certified EMDR provider with over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field.

Donna has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a hospital and outpatient settings.  Donna has extensive experience in performing psychiatric evaluations, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.  Donna has also had extensive experience working with clients who have depression, PTSD, anxiety, substance abuse issues and clients who engage in self injurious behavior.  Additionally, as a certified EMDR provider, she provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, as well as trauma focused treatment and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy. 

Donna is motivated to help you feel supported and safe, in a therapeutic environment.  She will assist you in addressing problems you are struggling with, and guide you in making healthy changes.

Marissa Maple is a gender-affirming Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community.  She graduated with her Masters in Social Worker from New York University and has experience working with individuals in both clinical, school, and in-home settings, as well as providing comprehensive evaluations, conducting treatment planning, and completing crisis interventions.


Marissa is experienced in working with a variety of clinical needs including depression, anxiety, conduct disorders, ADHD, substance abuse, and parenting skills.  Additionally, Marissa is trained in utilizing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as an intervention for individuals suffering with self-harming behaviors and suicidal ideations. 

 

Marissa's goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel safe to be their authentic selves and are empowered to learn to cope with life's many stressors.

Krista Maturo is a dually Licensed Professional Counselor  and Drug & Alcohol counselor, with experience providing mental health and substance abuse services to adolescents and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings and through individual, couples, and group therapy.  She also has worked with adults involved in the criminal justice system, DCF, probation, and parole.
 

Krista has experience working with a multitude of clinical needs such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse, anger management, self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship issues, and PTSD (primarily victims of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse). Krista utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques from psychodynamic with an eclectic approach to cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.


Krista is motivated to help you with self-exploration and teaching stress management and coping skills as well as incorporating mindfulness practice and relaxation training.  She enjoys using a holistic approach and will provide a safe therapeutic environment where individuals can feel supported in their efforts to makes positive changes in their lives.

Alan Eskenazi, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Alan Eskenazi is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with almost 30 years’ experience in the mental health/substance abuse field.  He specializes in working with all ages of individuals and families whose lives have been touched by alcoholism, chemical dependency, and other mental health issues including depression, anxiety, and ADHD.

In addition to his many years as a private practitioner, Alan has served in numerous executive-level positions in various mental health and substance abuse facilities in the Greater NY City area.  He is also a NY State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and holds a NY State certificate in Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment.  Alan also 
provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and is a certified EMDR therapist.

Alan received a BS in Psychology from Brooklyn College, and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from New York University.  He is a member of NAADAC (The Association for Addictions Professionals), the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association for Healthcare Quality, and the International Society for Mental Health Online. Most recently he was appointed to the Ridgefield (CT) Substance Abuse Prevention Council. He has received numerous awards for developing and implementing effective programs to improve patient care and has presented at numerous conferences throughout the country.

Becky is a psychiatric nurse practitioner or PMHNP, whose specialties are women’s health including Peri and postpartum mental health care, and child/adolescent psychiatry including diagnosing and treating ADHD.


Becky has 14 years of experience as a behavioral health nurse, and 25 years of experience as a labor and delivery nurse and childbirth educator.

Karen Ladr-Finefrock, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Karen Ladr-Finefrock (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters in Social Work from Smith College. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families to address a variety of clinical needs including depression, anxiety, challenging behaviors, trauma, grief and loss, and self-esteem. 

Karen’s therapeutic approach is grounded in relationally-based psychodynamic and attachment theory, and draws from evidence-based practices including: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and mindfulness. 

Additionally, Karen is a Certified Child & Adolescent Trauma Professional. She has training using the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework, a treatment framework designed for children, adolescents and their caregiving system(s), to heal from traumatic experiences. Karen utilizes a variety of modalities including play-based and sensory interventions.

Shoshannah is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience working with adults, children, families, and couples in a variety of settings. Shoshannah has experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, substance use, medical issues, family issues, marital conflict, attachment, and trauma. She combines experiential, structural, and cognitive behavioral models to best treat her clients. 

 

Shoshannah has training in several evidence based models, including trauma based treatment, and has extensive experiencing working with victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and children in foster care. Shoshannah has also presented at two Connecticut conferences on trauma-based approaches.

Laura Dodge (She/Her/They/Them) is a licensed clinical social worker with experience working with children, adolescent and adults in various treatment settings, including emergency departments, residential facilities and day treatment programs. She earned bachelors degrees in Psychology and in Social Work from Saint Joseph College (now the University of Saint Joseph) and her MSW from Fordham University.


Laura had decades of experience in working with adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflicts, substance use and issues related to sexuality and gender identity.


Laura is passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community and their families, providing a safe, nurturing and affirming clinical environment. She has specialized training in working with sexual minority and gender non-conforming youth, adolescent substance use, crisis intervention and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Her clinical approach blends psychodynamic and attachment theories, trauma-informed practice and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with a holistic, strengths based perspective to help clients achieve their goals.

Leina Fruhbauer is a board certified psychiatric advanced practice registered nurse who is licensed to treat clients across the life span.  Having worked in a community mental health setting has afforded her the opportunity to provide care to clients with various mental health needs.  

 

Leina specializes in Depression, Anxiety and Mood disorders in addition to other psychiatric conditions. She has a total of 14 years of nursing experience, 11 of which were as a RN providing care in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. Leina is a proponent of taking a holistic approach when providing psychiatric care. She believes that medication management should be used in conjunction with therapeutic modalities to achieve treatment goals.  

 

Leina holds a B.S. in Nursing from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and later received her Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Stony Brook University.
 
Leina strives to provide individuals with all the support they need to achieve their desired treatment outcomes. She is a staunch advocate of client education and working collaboratively to accomplish desired goals.

Kim Burns is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is licensed to treat clients across the lifespan.

 

Kim has 15 years of experience working in the mental health field in various roles and settings.  These include home, school, inpatient, crisis intervention, and community based practices.  Kim earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Nursing at Providence College and New York University before graduating with her Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University. 

 

Kim specializes in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult clients.  She believes in a strength-based approach to support clients and families in achieving their optimal level of functioning.  Kim values the ability to provide psychoeducation and therapeutic support in addition to medication management, engaging with each client based on their individualized needs.

She is a Certified Addiction Counselor and has experience helping individuals and families affected by substance abuse. Jeanne also has specialized training in psychodrama and trauma-focused treatment.

She believes that understanding the origins of our problems and the ways in which negative patterns and thinking influence us is the first step to changing the relationship we have with ourselves and others. Rachel McKenzie is a Licensed Professional Counselor here in CT, as well as in Maine. She has a love for connecting with others and helping others to see their true value, worthiness, and enoughness as people-flaws and all!

She has recently transitioned to Hop Brook Counseling Center so that she could continue providing hope and finding truth. At this time her therapy focus is in treating those adults who have depression, anxiety, and emotional trauma symptoms. Her niche is working with survivors of emotional trauma. Rachel also has treated SUDs, anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal issues, bipolar disorders and personality disorders in the past. Rachel's therapy style can be described as Mindfulness-Based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She has worked in long term residential settings, detox, and in an outpatient clinic doing individual therapy and group therapy. She also has experience tutoring in special education and applied behavior analysis for students of middle school and pre-school age. 

Through your work together it is hopeful that you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself through the cultivation of self awareness, self acceptance, and taking back control of your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
